The Year 2017 in Review

The Year 2017 in Review

I. The Countdown

unlike any terminally ill patient struggling in pain on a Hospice’s bed,
only two days left, before the funeral
to have it officially buried
into
deep soil
of the forgotten past.
yet, the ailing year still has a lot of energy
to continue running
much
faster than
a galloping horse
it has left a long trail
of a black shadow behind its back.

for better or worse,
before, we crack open a bottle of Champaign to cheer the new year,
let’s look back to major events
in two thousand seventeen.
to see
how
and what
it has impacted
on mankind and on the mother earth so far.

II- the Year of the New Emperor

the most powerful empire on earth has crowned its new absolute ruler
who believes he is sent by god
to save
his kingdom
which has been going down
into a toilet bowl and about to be flushed.

in his quest to make his monarchy great again
he has messed things around
and put the world orders
upside
down.

he has gone so aggressively wild ,
whenever someone dares challenge
his absolute
power.
he always tweets like an insane bird;
he fires at those people in his blazing rage
with a full force
whether
they’re his friends or his foes.
it is probably the most interesting event of the year.

III The Year of Nuclear

the year was stained by endless nuclear threats
from
the heated showdown
between two nu clear madman
who called each other
by
the degraded epithets:
“Little Rocket Man” and “Dotard”.

even though, the two came from opposite cultural backgrounds
not much difference
between these tyrants
they have acted exactly same
as if they were twin coming out of the same womb.
the two
have
funky hairdos,
very childish manners in dealing with conflicts
and same bullying nature with shitty statesmanship.
they equally obsess with power and love big show-offs.

both have paid
no
respect for
diplomacy in politics

people were extremely nervous
about the unstable mental state
of
the fat butcher’s in the East
and that of the retard provoker’s in the West;
at
any lost moment
in their uncontrolled anger
either of them could insanely activate the access code
to launch nuclear weapons.
and boom…
the world would come to its end without question.

the nuclear showdown has reminded us
of the American-made horribly burning hell
in Hiroshima
August 6, 1945
66,000 men, women, and children instantly died
69,000 innocent civilians injured
67% of the city was destroyed
in Nagasaki
August 9, 1945
39,000 innocent people killed
25,000 injured
nearly half of this city was collapsed into ash or ruble.

this horrible war crime against Japanese civilians has never been brought to justice
so, the “Little Rocket Man” and “Dotard” don’t care what would happen the rest of the world
as they must know very well about the game of war
the winner can take all including justice into his side.

how lucky mankind has been so far
as it didn’t happen in this year
hopefully, our fear of a nuclear war would ever be materialized
at any time
in the future.

IV The Year of Natural Disasters.

Paris Climate Accord was the best news
of
the year,
when the going-on-war-ravaged Syria committed
to join one hundred fifty-five other countries
which have already signed on the agreement.
it left the United States of America
alone
outside in the chilly cold
as she prefers to keep her head buried
under deep tar of hot sand
of her own desert

“enough is enough”
being badly abused
for
so long ,
our mother nature could no longer take it.
in her most desperate efforts,
he hit back as hard as she could
to wreak
havoc to mankind.

she has rained her last warnings
with
cyclones in Australia,
landslides and drought in Africa,
flooding and monsoons in South Asia,
earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires in North America.

alas,
she killed thousands of people.
she also jeopardized the livelihood
of hundred thousands of families’ on different continents

in particular,
she penalized the United States without mercy
with
hurricanes
Harvey, Irma, Maria
which
arrived in a row
one after another
and then came the worst wildfire in the California’s history.

hopefully, mother nature’s strong messages
about pollution
would
be taken more seriously
by those climate-change deniers.

V. The year of Political and Social Uncertainty

the middle and lower classes in the West
have bitterly felt
of
being
left behind.

they have been increasingly fed up with the status quo
since, they could no longer
keep up pace
with
swift change in technology,
also they could no longer tolerate growing gap of inequality.
moreover, they often felt unease
by
the permanent fear,
the everlasting apprehension,
of an increasingly insecure society
from some horrific acts of terrorism.

mass influx of refugees from war-torn Middle East
was purposely
used
as a scapegoat
for political and social unrest
high unemployment that created hardship
and decreased the living quality .

they felt they were pushed against the wall;
they has no choice but to act in revolt
against
the well-established system
which they believed the long-term loyal slave
that has served the rich and the elites.

they lost trust in professional politicians
so they have looked for a substitute.
populists have manipulated very well the political and social downturn
by
luring promises
of bringing down the system;

they’ve claimed to talk for “the people”,
to work for best interest of the majority
to fight against threats to security by foreign evils
in order to make their country great again.

as a result, populism has been surged as a tsunami
that swept over and changed the political landscape.
especially in the United States of America
the belly button
o’
capitalism
and the champion of freedom and democracy.

VI. Personal Sundry Notes:

I feel so lucky to be buried in snow and to live in igloos
on the peaceful land
of
ethnical, racial, cultural, religious and political diversity
up
North.

I am always amazed at the way
of how my southern neighbors do business
unlike, our American brothers who love shooting with guns
we Canadian prefer showing our middle fingers
shouting to fuck
off
in a road rage

what I have enjoyed the most during this troublesome year
was the confused drama
of
faked news
and especially Twitter rampages
from the war of words against mainstream media.

the end of the year two thousand seventeen.

White Settlers, Newcomers, and the Indigenous

White Settlers, Newcomers, and the Indigenous

various indigeneus tribes had roamed freely
with wild animals and all other beings
on
this vast land
of North America.
it was so pristine and serene.
the natives subsisted in harmony with nature.
they had lived with a non-resistant way
like a willow tree effortlessly does
in the strong
wind.
everything had gone well
until the alien’s mass arrival from the West.

the White settlers came in full of boatloads
they invaded and occupied the land
they burnt tent villages
the raped women
they killed men
they rounded up elders and the rest
into those so-called Indian reserves
they took away kids and put them to Christian schools
for full Western’s culture assimilation.

nowadays, nobody could dare dispute the fact
aboriginal people were here first
so much longer
than ancestors
of anybody
else’s.

however, it doesn’t mean much
newcomers –
regardless
of
their skin colors: Black, White, Yellow, or Brown
or their cultural backgrounds: Polish, Latinos, Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, etc.
have always argued that they have had nothing to do with it.
it was the matter of the far past.
whether it was right or wrong;
nothing could be changed.
no one could amend it.

absolutely
no
guilt left
for the current inhabitants in North America
alas, indigenous people have continued their horrible plight;
they have been racially discriminated
right
on their own homeland
the so-called First Nations.

On Art

On Art

I have witnessed endless arguments
about the very basic concept
of
what art really is
artists would go either to war or to a Satan’s hell
in defense of their own perception about art.

I bet you would laugh until your teeth fall off
if you heard your babysitter
asking you
“what is a child? please define it”

you might have your house flooded or being on fire
if your plumber asks himself “what the heck is plumbing?”
or your electrician wonders “what da hell is electricity?”

you would go bankruptcy
in case, your accountant doesn’t know about “what accounting is”
and
so on…

do you trust those people’s skills?
don’t
you think
they are idiots in their trades or profession?

it could be worst
you could be put on a death row
waiting for your day
of
being executed
if your lawyer does not know about the laws.

back to the senseless question
“what is art?”
it’s but an obsession
that has tortured the most sane mind
of any so-called artist’s
in the modern
day

if you are a person of imagination and creation
let’s not talk nonsense about art
art is not for anyone
to talk about
but to create it
regardless how shitty it could be.

c’mon
just do it
you’d be able to create a piece of shit
that might help you achieve your wild dream
of
being well-known
and being rich with millions of bucks
when while you’re still
kicking
alive

why not?

On Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve – Tanka

it flurries tonight
those who wish a white Christmas
you get what you dream of
it’s nice in your cozy home
but chilly for the homeless

The White Christmas

The White Christmas

it’s warm and cozy
by high heat from the woodstove
through the glass window
I’ve been watching glazing fire
while thinking of the homeless

On the White Christmas Day

On the White Christmas Day

instead of going out for a walk early in the morning.
I shoveled snow on my driveway.
I sometimes stopped to catch a breath.
I looked around,
then
up
and down.

the sky was gray.
the ground was white.
from
earth to heaven,
everything was fully covered
by a unique white and gray blanket.

the city looked as if it were a ghost town.
roads were nearly deserted.
once in awhile,
a lone vehicle crawled by.

it was abnormally quiet
like in a cemetery
except
clattering sound
from metal blade scraping on frosty asphalt
when a snow-plow truck quickly rumbled by.

the air was fresh
but it was too condensed for the lungs
and also too chilly for the fingers.

shoveling snow ain’t an easy task
for old folks
like me
but
I guess
it would be the fair price
we must pay for our fancy dream of a white Christmas.

Christmas Spirit

Christmas Spirit

Christmas
is
no longer
a genuine reason
for the jolly celebration
of Jesus Christ’s holy birthday.

nowadays,
Christmas is
but purely a burglary
through which commercial thieves rob its true spirit.
they skillfully set up their money-making traps;
so they could lure their victims to shopping malls
with the clear intention
of
legally
pickpocketing
to the last cent from every shopper’s wallet.

after the very short time of joy
from cheery season
the faked X-mad
for
gifts,
it will come the very long time of stress
when many people go broke
and drowned in the deep sea of debts .

Christmas,
itself
alone
must be considered
as the best sacred gift.

whether you’re a believer or not
let’s
forget
about shopping for presents.
bring the holy Christmas back to its original meaning.

Merry Christmas to all you

Please Help, God!

Please Help, God!

you can kneel down and pray
until your last day
on
earth.

your prayer might help you retain some of your false hope.
it could also psychologically douse off your flaring anxiety.
however,
it
doesn’t
change the reality.

more over, your God must be extremely busy
in
dealing
with billions of prayers
which are more urgent than yours.

c’mon.
give Him a break.
amen.

stop
praying.
lift your butts up
and deal with your own problem by yourself.

maybe you find a better outcome than the one you keep praying for.
you never know,
if you don’t try.

your God must be happy to know
you’re on your own.
amen.

Sexual Harassment

Sexual Harassment

I know for sure,
when
I was young
but old enough to fool around
I
fell in love
and tumbled out of love
with various girls at different time.

I might have done many crazily sexual encounters with them
such
as
kissing their lips,
fondling their breasts,
rubbing their sexy butts,
and last but not least, having sex with them
in bed,
in a bush,
or on the backseat of a vehicle, and so on…

it has been too long for me to recall in details
of
what
and with whom
I have done for a very long time ago.

I feel how lucky
I’m
as a nameless man.
I have no need to dig into my past
too
far back
thirty years or forty years ago,
unlike those celebrities who have to defend themselves,
from
being accused
of sexual harassment.

nowadays, even if a female is mature, in full consent, and in total control.
ain’t it sound legally safer to ask for
either a written permission
or a waiver
prior
to having
any sexual encounter with her?
